nhow Amsterdam Rai is a 4-star hotel designed by renowned architect Reinier de Graaf, located next to the Rai Convention Centre in Amsterdam.

As a collaborator of the architectural firm GLG Architects, in charge of the interior design, I created the headboards for the 650 rooms of the hotel, the theming of which is inspired by the cardinal point towards which they face (East, South, North, South West, South East and North West) and the culture associated with it.

Art for the lobby floors

1. GIANT COMPOSITION DESIGN INSPIRED BY MEXICAN AND JAPANESE CULTURES

The design of the first floor is inspired by the rich Mexican and Japanese cultures. The initial piece created for the hotel’s floors proposes a unique experience of walking on a lake of Mexican flowers, dotted with Japanese umbrellas. These two cultures intertwine in a surreal maremagnum full of colour and nuances, where majestic giant Japanese carp swim.
To preserve and highlight this composition, it has been embedded under a layer of thick resin, thus becoming a large mural that can be walked on without risk of deterioration.
This innovative design not only beautifies the lobby on floor 2, but also evokes a sense of wonder and delight for guests and visitors to the hotel. With this artwork on the floors, a unique ambience is created that fuses two very different cultures into one visually dazzling experience.

2.  LARGE COMPOSITION DESIGN INSPIRED BY AFRICAN CULTURES

The composition created for the second floor of the lobby is a celebration of Africa’s rich culture and distinctive craftsmanship. Inspired by the diversity and timeless beauty of the African continent, this graphic work stages a dazzling scene full of nuances.
The second floor of the hotel’s second-floor lobby comes alive with a heterogeneous array of typical African dishes, representing the exquisite gastronomy of various regions of the continent. From the intense flavours of Moroccan tagines to the colourful and spicy dishes of Ethiopian cuisine.
To add a touch of magic to the scene, giant fish swim among the African dishes, creating a playful and surprising atmosphere. These majestic fish, with their shimmering scales and vibrant colours, seem to float on a bed of sea vegetation, evoking the beautiful aquatic landscapes of African rivers and lakes.
Each element of this composition has been carefully designed and rendered with great attention to detail. From the intricate patterns of the African plates to the fluidity of the movements of the fish, everything blends harmoniously to create a captivating visual experience.
Like the first floor, this composition has also been protected with a layer of high quality resin, ensuring its durability and allowing hotel guests to enjoy this work of art as they walk through the lobby.
With this creation, the 2nd floor lobby is transformed into a space that pays homage to the cultural diversity of Africa, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in its charm and appreciate the timeless beauty that the continent has to offer.
